A 2024 review in The Lancet Healthy Longevity pooled dozens of studies and found that a handful of common factors — including high blood pressure, hearing loss, physical inactivity and obesity — account for a large share of dementia cases; taken together, a cluster of everyday risk factors was tied to roughly half of cases.
